FUSION 2024 Page 21Year 8 ReportThis year, our Year 8 students have shown incredible growth and engagement across various subjects and activities. In Humanities and English, they explored critical global topics such as migration and asylum seekers, developing their analytical skills through diverse text types, including novels, films, and news articles. In Mathematics, students continued to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills applying these to all strands of the curriculum. They worked both independently and collaboratively to understand the way that maths connects to all areas of our lives and can support us in the real world. Beyond the classroom, students embraced hands-on learning during excursions to Ninja Parc and KIOSC, where they challenged themselves physically and engaged with exciting science activities. Early in the year, the Year 8 Celebration Day brought the cohort together, fostering community and school spirit. Well done to our Year 8s for their dedication, enthusiasm, and achievements throughout the year! We know that you will continue to go from strength to strength as you enter your final year in Middle School.Joel Collins Year 8 Level Leader Year 9 Report This year has been an incredible journey for our Year 9 students as they embraced new challenges, developed resilience and created lasting memories. One of the highlights was the much-anticipated Buttercup Camp, where students enjoyed horse riding, hiking through picturesque landscapes, and strengthening friendships in the great outdoors. In Term 2, City Experience brought Melbourne to life as students explored iconic landmarks such as the Melbourne Museum, IMAX, the Old Melbourne Gaol, the MCG and the Shrine of Remembrance, with a visit to the Queen Victoria Market adding a cultural and sensory experience. The cohort also participated in Be Active excursions, stepping out of their comfort zones to try lawn bowls, showcasing teamwork and discovering new skills. In the classroom, they displayed creativity in English, crafting gripping dystopian narratives, while in Humanities, they delved into the history of The First World War, building their understanding of global conflicts and their impacts. In Mathematics, students tackled problem-solving tasks and strengthened their critical thinking skills, exploring the practical applications of maths in everyday life. Congratulations to our Year 9 students for their growth, enthusiasm and achievements this year. As you prepare to step into Senior School, we are confident you will continue to thrive and embrace the opportunities ahead.Jack Howells Year 9 Level LeaderYear 10 ReportOur Year 10 students transitioned smoothly into senior school, embracing the opportunities and experiences that came their way. They quickly made the most of the Senior Study Centre, enjoying its comforts and the added perks of using the microwave and kettle for lunch. Some students began VET courses on Wednesday afternoons, while others participated in Be Ready classes. The cohort explored a variety of engaging elective subjects, prepared for and completed their exams, and took part in course counselling to map out their Year 11 and 12 pathways. They also participated in memorable activities such as the Party Ready program, the RYDA driver education excursion, several Get Wild excursions, and Be Positive classes, which made for a dynamic and enriching year.Naomi Rankine Year 10 Level Leader
