FUSION 2024 Page 30Junior School Art Creativity in Action %u2013 Art Highlights from the YearThis semester, the art room in the junior school was buzzing with creativity as students explored a variety of artistic techniques, materials, and themes. Each year level tackled exciting projects that allowed them to express their ideas, imagination, and growing artistic skills.For our Foundation students, the focus was on experimenting with different materials to bring their imagination to life. One of the highlights was their Indigenous-inspired tree collages, where they designed and assembled intricate tree patterns, learning about culture and detail along the way. They also created vibrant minibeast collages, crafting butterflies, bees, and caterpillars while connecting their work to their inquiry unit about habitats.In Years 1 and 2, students explored sustainability through art by creating collages using recycled materials. This task not only showcased their creativity but also emphasized the importance of reusing resources. Their exploration of Wassily Kandinsky%u2019s %u201cConcentric Circles%u201d led to colorful pastel artworks and inspired tree collages. Guided drawing projects gave students a chance to practice precision and patience while creating detailed designs.The Years 2, 3, and 4 classes immersed themselves in textile art, creating woven wall hangings that combined technical skills with vibrant color choices. Their printmaking projects, inspired by Keith Haring, reflected dynamic energy as they designed and carved stencils of Olympic athletes. Another standout task was their creation of 3D pyramids, where each side depicted a natural disaster, blending sketching and design skills with environmental awareness.Finally, the Year 5 and 6 students embraced large-scale projects like Talavera-inspired cat sculptures. These paper m%u00e2ch%u00e9 creations reflected their ability to plan, follow steps, and infuse their work with color and detail. They also explored the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by creating individual artworks that represented these global challenges, combining their artistic skills with thoughtful reflection.Across all year levels, students brought their creativity and enthusiasm to every project, producing artworks that reflected their individuality, teamwork, and skill development.
