FUSION 2024 Page 34Senior School ReportAs we near the end of another school year, I find myself once again amazed by just how quickly the year has seemed to pass, and while I might be inclined to put this down to my advancing age, I am reassured by my younger colleagues who share the sentiment that 2024 has indeed flown by. The end of the year is always a time for reflection, offering a chance to celebrate the many achievements, challenges, and memorable moments that have defined the year. This report serves as an attempt to capture some of the highlights and accomplishments of our Senior School students throughout 2024.Two major highlights early in the year were the College Swimming and Athletics Sports held in Term One. These events were fantastic opportunities for our senior students to come together and demonstrate their enthusiasm and school spirit. It was truly inspiring to see so many of our students participating with such energy, enjoying the day and showcasing their teamwork and camaraderie. I would also like to commend the Year 11 and Year 12 Vocational Major students who played a vital role in organizing and running a variety of fun novelty events for our younger primary school students. The care and mentorship they provided were heartwarming and showed a genuine connection with our junior students.Beyond these early events, our Senior School students continued to demonstrate their talents and commitment in a wide range of inter-school sports. Many represented the College proudly, excelling in sports such as basketball, volleyball, athletics, cross-country, and swimming. Their dedication and achievements in these competitions were a testament to the hard work and sportsmanship they bring to the field. In addition to sporting achievements, the extracurricular activities at Boronia K-12 College have been vibrant and varied. Our VET Music Performance students, along with the Instrumental Music students, showcased their skills in numerous performances, including assemblies, lunchtime concerts, and community events including the recent Fete. The Student Voice Team and various leadership and community programs also saw strong participation from Senior School students, helping to foster a spirit of teamwork and responsibility. A special mention goes to a select group of Year 10 students who participated in the Worri Yallock Farm School program, further expanding their leadership and personal development. The Student Voice Team, as well as our Senior School Student Leaders, have been at the heart of many initiatives throughout the year. Their involvement in leadership programs has provided opportunities to develop skills in decision-making, teamwork, and communication, as well as a deeper understanding of empathy, integrity, and social responsibility. These experiences have helped shape our Senior School students into individuals ready to take on the challenges of both their personal and professional lives. I would like to extend a special thank you to College Captains Vinice Bonganay and Oliver James, for their outstanding representation of our College. Their leadership has been invaluable, and I also want to recognize Ms. Rankin for her significant contribution to the success of the Student Voice Program in 2024.This year, we were fortunate to once again enjoy being able to hold our Senior School Formal, which was held at Sky High Mount Dandenong mid-year. It was wonderful to see our Year 11 and Year 12 students dressed up and enjoying the opportunity to socialize with their peers and staff. The event was a great success, and I think all students will fondly remember this event in the years to come. One of the most significant events of the year was the Year 12 Valedictory Evening held on Thursday 17th October at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood. This memorable occasion marked the formal end of the Year 12 journey for the Class of 2024. Surrounded by family, friends, and staff, our graduates received their Graduation Certificates and a memento of Boronia K-12 College. The evening was a celebration of their achievements, perseverance, and growth, particularly as they overcame the challenges of the COVID pandemic during their early years of schooling. Both Mr. Broecker, the College Principal, and Mr. Wayne Judge, the Director of Senior School, shared words of congratulations, advice, and encouragement for the students as they take the next steps in their futures. The support from parents, carers, and families has been instrumental in helping our students navigate their Senior School years and complete their educational journey. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing trust and support they have shown in helping us guide their children through their school years, and we look forward to seeing and hearing about what these students do as they take the next steps in their young lives.
