FUSION 2024 Page 9Assistant Principal Secondary. The end of the school year brings many opportunities for celebration and for reflection. Most recently, students completed their 2024 formal studies and commenced Step Up which is the beginning of their 2025 classes and subjects. We continue to be amazed by our incredible students as they demonstrate strengths, skills and enormous talent in a range of areas. If you had the opportunity to attend either our Year 12 Valedictory Dinner or the Year 7-11 Awards Evening at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood, you would have witnessed the tremendous pride we have for our students as we honoured them and paid recognition for demonstrating excellence through academic, sporting, artistic or interpersonal attributes.Year 12 VCE results have been released and our students have again achieved some amazing results. It is a time of celebration and reflection for our Graduate Year 12 class as they can finally appreciate the rewards of their hard work and effort throughout the year with their results. Many of our students will now be excitedly waiting for the first round of offers through VTAC for Victorian universities, TAFE institutes and independent tertiary colleges in the coming weeks. Regardless of final results, our Year 12 cohort are capable young adults who are equipped to tackle and further their life-long education. It has been an honour and a privilege to play a part in your journey throughout your time at BK12 College. The rest of your life awaits you and I have no doubt that you are well prepared to make it a meaningful and successful one.In addition to celebrating outstanding achievements in schoolwork, our students were recognised each and every day for demonstrating our school values and positive behaviours. At BK-12 College, our commitment to fostering a supportive and respectful learning environment was reinforced by the introduction of the Positive Behaviour Program across 2024. This initiative has helped embed the values of respect, resilience, safety and a love of learning across our community. Through explicit teaching and a Positive Behaviour Matrix, students have embraced these expectations, helping to build a culture that supports both individual growth and collective success. As we continue to refine this program in 2025, we are excited to build on the positive momentum and further enhance the social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students. The delivery of this program will be enhanced by the introduction of 20 minutes Mentor Sessions on every week day in 2025. A further highlight of the 2024 year was the creation of a staff School Improvement Team dedicated to empowering students and growing pride. The team, led by Mitch Stone and me, had as its first major focus the task of reviewing and revamping our current House System. Whilst the current system enjoys great support from our students and families, when we hold our swimming and athletics carnivals, we felt there were many other ways that students could accrue points for their house. This belief was echoed by a number of students during their 2025 House Captain interviews. In 2025 the House system will be expanded. Students can earn house points through a variety of activities and achievements. The allocation of house points will be designed to encourage positive behaviour, academic success, participation in a wide range of school activities and contributions to the school community. Across Term 4, we invited students from across the entire College to participate in an Art Competition to help design mascots to represent our house names and colours. The response from our students was fantastic and we hope to be able to unveil our new mascots early in 2025. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff for their professionalism and effort throughout the year. Thank you to parents/carers and families for your commitment to our College and to your child%u2019s education. A positive partnership between home and school is an important one for students and makes a real difference to the success of our children.Kath Middleton
